Le Vatout Bed and Breakfast
Cozy, low-key and completely relaxed, Le Vatout Bed and Breakfast is a home that we’re blessed to share with our guests, our friends. A traditional New England farmhouse, it’s become our personal artists' retreat – its rooms are filled with paintings, photographs and found objects, and books beckon wherever there’s space. We've been told that when asked what it meant, this strange little French snippet of a phrase, the founder of Le Vatout would gesture around him, at the fabulous garden, the beautiful house, and reply, "All of it – great food, good company, art and music and nature – Le Vatout means The Whole Thing." He's long moved on and we're honored to continue his legacy of hospitality and appreciation of life in this quiet corner of the world called Waldoboro. Centrally located on the craggy shoreline of Mid-coast Maine, we're just a half an hour south of Camden, twenty minutes from Rockland, the Farnsworth and its famed Wyeth and Louise Nevelson collections, and two seconds away from nature. Pemaquid Point, with its dramatic granite formations and its pretty white lighthouse, is up the road, the quaint fishing village of Friendship up the other, and hiking trails are everywhere. Artists, bring your laptop, your camera or your easel, birders your binoculars. Stargazers, there’ll be nothing between you and them. Everybody bring your bikes, your bathing suits, your snowshoes, your kayaks or cross country skis and, most importantly, an open mind for beauty. Your stay here is bound to relax, entertain and enrich you. At the end of your visit we're sure you'll agree, Le Vatout really does mean The Whole Thing!
