A View of Life in the Medomak River Watershed
Location: Tidemark Gallery, Waldoboro, Maine
Event Dates: 8/18/2009 -
8/22/2009
Reception: •
Waldoboro, Maine – Tidemark Gallery, in conjunction with the Medomak Valley Land Trust, invites local photographers to participate in the Gallery’s special exhibition, “A view of Life in the Watershed.” This exhibition is a shared project incorporated into the Land Trust’s third annual River Festival celebration, on August 22, 2009
The exhibition is open to artists from throughout the midcoast area. Exhibition space is limited, so only the first 30 adult and 10 youth artists that apply will be accepted into the exhibition. The theme of this exhibit is the changing face of the Medomak River’s watershed through the seasons. All photo entries must have been taken between August 2007 and August 2009.
Each artist may enter three photos; all entries must be no larger than 12 x 16 including the frame. Photographs may be unframed, but must be mounted on foam core board with a mat.
There is a $6.00 entry fee. After prizes are awarded, the balance will be donated to the Medomak Valley Land Trust. The exhibition will feature Peoples’ Choice Awards in three categories: Adult (16 and over) film image, Adult (16 and over) digital image, and Youth (15 and under) film or digital. For youth participants, scholarships are available from the Medomak Valley Community Foundation’s Kevin Murray Memorial Fund.
The photos will be on display for voting at the Tidemark Gallery from August 18 to August 22, 2008. Photos will be for sale on from August 18 through the day of the Festival, August 22. All photos will remain on exhibit until August 22. The prize winning photos will be announced at 1:00pm on August 22. All sales will incur a 30 commission, which will be donated to the Medomak Valley Land Trust.
Interested photographers should contact John Blamey, 832-7761, or via e-mail: jblamey@roadrunner.com, for an entry form. The criteria for selection of exhibitors will be the postmarked date on the application. In the event of ties, a random drawing will determine the final artists admitted to the exhibition.

Paint the Town
Location: Waldoboro, Maine
Event Dates: 8/15/2009 -
8/15/2009
Reception: 8/15/2009 • 5:00 p.m., live auction begins at 6:15 p.m.

Waldoboro, Maine – The Tidemark Gallery, in partnership with local non-profit groups, invites artists to Paint the Town in Waldoboro Maine, on Saturday, August 15, 2009. This event is a day of painting, scenic beauty, and a celebration of art in the beautiful Medomak River valley of midcoast Maine.
The 4th Annual Paint the Town in Waldoboro Maine Celebration provides artists with an opportunity to paint from unique and private vistas around the town of Waldoboro and then sell their paintings at a live auction that evening. A 25% share of the auction proceeds benefit the Medomak Valley Community Foundation, the Medomak Valley Land Trust, the Waldoboro Library, and the Waldoboro Lions Club.
Located in mid-coast Maine, on U.S. Route 1, Waldoboro provides artists with great vistas of the Medomak River, along with rolling hills, and historic buildings and homes.
Tidemark Gallery owner, Charlotte Davenhill stated, “We continue to be excited about hosting this event. It gives artists the chance to visit and paint from locations rarely open to the public, while also meeting the challenge of completing an en plein air painting in a day. We have expanded the number of artists to 45. The growth in the event has resulted in over $39,000 in art sales in the last three years. A significant achievement regionally, and a tribute to the quality of artists participating in the event.”
Davenhill continued, “For the community, this event gives us the opportunity to host artists and share in their creative process. It is also a rare chance for experienced collectors, as well as those who have never purchased original art, to own an especially significant piece of fine art."
Davenhill closed by saying, “We invite artists from throughout New England to visit Waldoboro and share in a true community art event.”
For collectors, come early, visit Waldoboro's historic downtown, and the Tidemark Gallery. Enjoy a walk down Main street to the view the river, or walk north past the Custom's House and historic sea captain's homes. Then join us at 5 pm for the artist reception and preview. Make it a day for the arts by enjoying a performance at the Waldo Theatre after the auction!
For more information, visit the Medomak Valley Community Foundation’s website, www.themvcf.org, for event details, application, local amenities, and photos of the community. Or, contact event chair, John Blamey, at (207) 832-7761, or jblamey@roadrunner.com for an event brochure and application. The deadline for artist applications is August 13, 2009.
